Xanthelasma is a condition in which yellow flat growth develops over the upper or lower eyelids, usually around the inner side of the upper eyelid. These growths generally exhibit parts of cleaner cells of the skin(macrophages) that consist lipid. However, the definite reason of their growth is not yet known.

Diagnosing Xantehlasma

Diagnosis of xanthelasma is fairly uncomplicated as the colour of the growth and areas where they appear are distinctive. They generally appear more in women as compared to men and they are most likely to occur in the forties to fifties. Once the plaques develop, they are usually passive or grow at a very slow rate.

Xathelasma usually occurs locally and can occur along with or even without increased blood lipids.
