As we age, the skin around your eyes becomes loose, begins to sag and shows signs of aging. You look weary and tired. Puffy bags form below your eyes. Daily activities like driving or reading become more and more difficult because drooping eyelids obscure your vision. Needless to say, your self-confidence drops.

Does that sound familiar to you?

It’s not a horror story. It’s what ageing does to our eyelids and how it can impact our lives. Out of all facial features, the eyes have the most dramatic impact on appearance. That is why many people are concerned with the issues mentioned above. If you find yourself in this situation, it may be just the right time to consider Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty).

Safely achieve jaw-dropping results

  • Rejuvenate your eyelids and get a more rested and pleasant appearance.
  • Safely remove excess eyelid skin to restore those lost youthful eye qualities.
  • Rectify the bags around your eyes to get elegant lines of the lower eyelid
  • Reduce puffy-looking eye areas above your eyes for a refreshed and naturally youthful appearance.
  • Look brighter with a greater visibility of upper eyelashes

Frequently Asked Questions

Blepharoplasty is suitable for anyone with hooding of the upper eyelids or baggy lower eyelids, especially if their vision is being affected. These issues can cause you to look permanently tired.

Prior to eyelid surgery, an examination by an ophthalmologist may be required along with some blood tests. This will be determined in your free consultation.

All cosmetic procedures involve an element of risk. For eyelid surgery, bleeding and infection are potential problems; in a rare occasion lagophthalmos can happen due to the removal of excess skin that could affect proper eye closure, and that can cause long term eye irritation; this condition is avoided by careful measurement of the skin removed before the surgery. Retrobulbar haematoma has been reported, which is due to bleeding behind the eyeball which causes severe pain in the eye.

The procedure usually takes anywhere between 1-3 hours depending on the patient and the level of work required

The longevity of eyelift surgery is dependent on the patient, the type of surgery, skin care routines, and other possible factors. Typically, you can expect that if you follow the post-procedural care instructions, your eyelift results will last for years after the surgery.

If you suffer from a condition where your field of view is affected by your eyelids and surgical intervention is necessary, Medicare will provide partial coverage for the procedure. If, however, the surgery is for purely cosmetic reasons, the Medicare rebate is not applicable.

It is always recommended that you talk to a trained professional, like the staff at Chelsea Cosmetics, to ensure that you get all the information you need regarding this type of procedure.

The procedure requires day surgery under local anaesthesia with a cold compress for the first 24 hours to minimize swelling. An upper blepharoplasty can have sutures removed roughly one-week post-operation. Lower blepharoplasty does not require any suture removal if it is done from the conjunctival side to remove the eye bags, however, if excess skin is excised, sutures under the skin will be applied and will require to be removed in 5-7 days. In both cases, you will be able to return to work in approximately seven days.

Cosmetic eye lift surgery can be performed on people over 30 years; often eye bags run in families and depending on your genetics can start showing at a young age.

The procedure is often completed under local anaesthetic; however, if you would like to undergo surgery under general anaesthetic, that is also possible. If you would prefer general anaesthetic, you can discuss this option with Dr Attalla during the consultation. Patients should be aware that the use of general anaesthetic will incur additional costs.

Once the procedure is complete, the base level expected recovery time is approximately two weeks. During this time, you should minimise sun and wind exposure, reduce reading and screen time (computer use and television watching), and avoid any activity which will cause increased blood flow to the eyes. Obeying all instructions provided by your doctor will help you to heal faster and reduce the risk of any complications or unwanted side effects.
