Why Slim Liposuction Over Conventional Liposuction?
Liposuction was first used in the 1920s by the French surgeon, Charles Dujarier. Since that time, the use of suction to remove fat and sculpt the body has progressed dramatically. The modern technique has evolved to reduce previous post-surgical complications associated with liposuction drastically.
Despite these improvements, patients are still always looking for non-surgical liposuction options that will provide comparable results. Slim Lipo was developed to bridge the gap between traditional liposuction and non-surgical alternatives.
Three of the main types of liposuction offered by Chelsea Cosmetics Melbourne are traditional, Power-Assisted (PAL) , Ultrasound Assisted (UAL) and Laser-Assisted (LAL) (SmartLipo or SlimLipo).

A Less Invasive Choice For Liposuction
Though it is still a surgical procedure and thus carries some risks, Slim Lipo is a far less invasive option than standard liposuction. This new procedure is becoming increasingly popular for those looking to sculpt and define their bodies.
- Less invasive
- Decrease downtime after the procedure with rapid recovery
- With the targeted approach, problem areas can be easily reduced within a few treatment sessions
Easier, Safer, Gentler – Slim Lipo
Conventional liposuction can be risky. If the metal cannula used in the procedure has to be employed close to the skin, damage can occur due to interfering with the delicate blood supply to the skin. Such damage can cause a change in skin pigmentation or skin necrosis.
The gentler touch of Slim Lipo allows it to be used close to the skin to safely and effectively stimulate collagen production and improve skin quality and shrinking of loose skin without the risks of conventional liposuction.

Gentle Treatment with Effective Results
With conventional liposuction, the cannula has to be pushed forcibly into the body, and that could cause damage to essential structures like muscles, blood vessels, and nerves. With Slim Lipo, the probe is pushed gently into the fat layer, and the laser does its magic in dissolving the unwanted fat and tightens the loose skin at the same time, getting more from the procedure.
Slim Lipo has dual laser wavelength, one wavelength targets fat specifically, and the other wavelength targets the skin. This makes Slim Lipo an excellent form of treatment to address excessive fat and sagging skin.
Improved Skin Retraction For Long-Lasting Results
Slim Lipo is one of the best methods to achieve good skin retraction for people with sagging skin after weight loss or giving birth. Skin retraction improves gradually over a period of 6-9 months after the procedure..
Slim Lipo is cutting-edge technology to provide you excellent results with reduced risk and recovery time. Slim Lipo has a laser wavelength that selectively targets the collagen-producing cells in the skin dermis. As a result, over a period of six months, the skin fibres shrink, with full retraction achieved in nine months after the procedure.
Reduced Recovery Time Without Sacrificing Results
The downtime after conventional liposuction is usually about 3-4 weeks of discomfort and bruising; the downtime after Slim Lipo is usually between 3-4 days, with some patients able to go back to work within two days post-procedure.
So What Is Traditional Liposuction?
Liposuction is the process of forcibly sucking the fat out of the body using negative pressure by suction machine and breaking the fat cells using a metal tube called a “cannula.”
The traditional or conventional process is the original method used to perform liposuction procedures and is still very popular among cosmetic surgeons. Traditional liposuction involves the creation of incisions over fat deposits, into which a cannula is inserted to break up and remove the fat from the body.
This procedure, which initially involved a higher rate of post-surgery complications, has been refined and improved with the invention of tumescent anaesthesia. Tumescent anaesthesia is a mixture of a large volume of saline, local anaesthetic, and adrenaline used in this procedure.
The benefits of using tumescent anaesthesia over local anaesthesia during these procedures are that tumescent anaesthesia shrinks the blood vessels under the skin and helps to minimise blood loss during the procedure, from about 50 – 60% using the old procedure down to 1%. This also allows for quicker recovery time.
Problem areas that can be addressed with liposuction
Sometimes no matter how much we exercise or how well we eat, there are parts of our body that just don’t change. With Slim Lipo, standard and the PAL system, we can safely remove a large volume of fat and can achieve the desired results with less discomfort and downtime. Liposuction offers an effective way to achieve the aesthetic you’re looking for. Slim lipo when combined with PAL allows the surgeon to remove more fat than conventional method and helps more skin retraction and tightening.
The traditional process is suitable for patients with a large volume of fat that needs to be removed. Patients with mild to moderate skin laxity are advised by Dr. Attalla to undergo another method such as Slim Lipo. It should also be kept in mind that the traditional process involves a longer recovery time than other methods.
Benefits of Traditional Liposuction
- Suitable for large volume fat removal
- Addition of tumescent anaesthesia – improved process and reduced recovery time
- Longer recovery time than other fat reduction methods
What Is Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)?
Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is a modernised version of the procedure, also performed using tumescent anaesthesia. PAL involves the cannula being connected to a motorised handpiece, which sends micro-vibrations down through the cannula and into the subcutaneous fat beneath the skin. These vibrations gently loosen the fat, making the suction process easier and resulting in less tissue trauma than the traditional procedure.
Benefits of Slim Lipo:
- Less invasive than normal liposuction,
- Decreased downtime after the procedure with a faster recovery
- With a targeted approach, problem areas can be easily reduced within a few treatment sessions
The smaller size of the cannula also allows the PAL method to be used on areas of the body, which are more difficult to sculpt, such as the inner thighs and male breast area.
Similar to the traditional method, PAL is a good choice for a patient who has a large volume of fat that needs to be removed, but it is not suitable for those with moderate skin laxity.
The benefits of Power Assisted Liposuction include;
- Greater surgical control
- Able to be used on a wider range of areas
- Ease of use and greater control over the cannula by the surgeon
- Shorter surgery and recovery period
- Less scarring and bruising post-surgery
- Able to be used on a wider range of areas
Non Surgical Liposuction
Could CoolSculpting be Right for You?
For those who want to avoid surgical procedures altogether, there are non-invasive fat removal processes available. Modalities such as coolsculpting (where a machine freezes fat cells), or fat dissolving injections (where a solution is injected in the fatty area to dissolve fat) can fulfill this need for clients in a simpler form of liposuction.
Precision Body Contouring With Vaser Lipo
If you’ve struggled with weight gain, and exercise and diet just haven't given you the transformation you’d like, VASER Lipo® can help. VASER lipo uses a precise, minimally invasive technology that produces visible results in just one procedure.
Additionally, the technology provides many benefits versus traditional liposuction treatments.
The procedure is tissue-selective, targeting fat while protecting other tissues from damage. It’s powerful enough to eliminate substantial areas of fat but gentle enough to treat delicate areas such as the neck and arms. VASER lipo is clinically proven to produce even results in treated areas via its form of liposuction, leaving your skin smoother and your body contours enhanced.
Key Benefits of VASER Liposuction:
- Produce visible results in a single procedure
- Easily remove large amounts of stored fat
- Can result in smoother skin, even in delicate areas like the arms and neck
- Helps refine and accentuate the appearance of muscles.

How it Works
The liposuction procedure is done under sedation, lowering the patient’s stress before and during surgery. Local anaesthesia is injected at the site so that a small nick can be made in the skin, where the tumescent anaesthesia is then injected to numb the whole area.
The laser liposuction is used first under the skin to melt the fat and tightens the skin, and then power-assisted lipo (PAL) is used gently under the skin where the cannula vibrates and breaks the remaining fat without using any power force. PAL has much stronger power to remove more fat from the patient than conventional liposuction without the need to use any manpower force. After the procedure, the patient should wear a compression garment for four weeks. The garment is designed to support the tissues and to minimise the chances of bruising and swelling from the procedure.
Tumescent anaesthesia is a large volume of diluted local anaesthesia that has the advantage of numbing the area, and at the same time, it shrinks the blood vessels, which minimises the discomfort during the surgery and any chance of bleeding after the surgery.
Recovery from this procedure is very rapid. It is quite common to sense some tenderness, and some patients could resume work the very next day. A compression garment will be worn on the treated section for 4-6 weeks. While results may differ for each patient, they cannot be guaranteed. On consultation, Dr. Attalla will be able to advise you if you are a good candidate for the Slim Lipo procedure.
- Unrealistic expectation.
- Patients that have undergone crash dieting prior to the treatment.

- Temporary bruising
- Allergic reactions to drugs
- Irregularities of the skin
- Unevenness and hematomas

The results from this form of liposuction have been absolutely amazing; our client has seen results which have been very overwhelming with the reduction of fat almost everywhere, which are permanent if proper lifestyle and diet is followed. The result may vary from patient to patient; therefore, it is wise to get in touch with the consultant and discuss their case and suitability for liposuction in length.
During your consultation with Dr. Attalla, a full examination will be made, and a discussion of your medical history will take place. Dr. Attalla will then discuss whether this is the best option for you, outline the different types of liposuction offered by Chelsea Cosmetics, describe the procedure, and inform you of the price and side effects involved with the procedure. Firstly, the patient is sedated to minimise stress before and during surgery. Then tumescent anaesthesia is used to numb the area requiring treatment. Tumescent anaesthesia is diluted local anaesthesia which expands the tissues, shrinks the blood vessels, and contains antibacterial elements, resulting in less discomfort after the surgery and a more efficient recovery process. Up to four or five small incisions during the procedure are made in the skin, and a suction cannula is used to extract the fat deposits form under the skin.
It is advisable to get in touch with your Slim Lipo physician who would examine you and would be in a position to let you know whether this form of liposuction suits you and what would be the results. During your initial consultation with your Slim Lipo specialist, you will be assessed to determine if you are the best candidate for this procedure. Assessment may vary from one patient to another.

Slim Lipo has been designed while keeping in mind the perfection as well as the comfort of the client. Therefore, generally, the patient only feels a little warmth during the treatment. This procedure gives due weight age to the comfort and sensitivity of the client. Expected swelling after the procedure due to the fluid injected in the area and for two weeks after the procedure as a part of the healing process. It is advised to stop taking fish oil and Aspirin two weeks before the surgery date to avoid chances of bruising. Slight warmth may be felt during the treatment.
Like any surgical procedure, during the recovery period, it is common to feel tenderness or soreness in the treated area after liposuction. However, recovery from this procedure is very rapid, and some of Dr. Attalla’s patients have been able to return to work the day after surgery.
A compression garment is worn on the treated area for 4-6 weeks, which is used to minimise the chances of bruising and swelling and support the treated tissues throughout the recovery process.
The surgical incisions during liposuction usually heal within 7-10 days with minimal scarring, and our patients can begin light exercise within one week and return to a routine exercise regime within 2-3 weeks.
Slim Lipo can be performed both in an operating room or an office setting depending upon the physician’s preference. This liposuction procedure is performed at our practice under local anaesthetic. The procedure can be done in day surgery or the procedure room depending on the amount of fat removed and if the patient requested the procedure done under general rather than doing it under local anaesthesia.
Patients that may have had skin irregularities due to traditional liposuction can be ideal candidates for Slim Lipo. Laser body sculpting can eliminate stubborn fat by melting it; create sleek contours, even out dimples and dents.

Following the surgery and as part of your recovery, it will be necessary for you to wear a medical-grade compression garment for 4-6 weeks. The compression garment will aid your recovery from the side effects of liposuction surgery, including bruising, swelling, and general discomfort. It will also help to ease some pain as well. Compression garments benefit wearers by:
- Significantly reducing oedema by compressing and flushing potentially harmful body fluids away from the skin.
- Minimising bruising by compression on small blood vessels and capillaries.
- Reducing the possible risk of infection from liposuction as potentially harmful fluids are not allowed to accumulate
- Aiding general body contouring and skin retraction by firm compression of the skin during the healing process.
- Improved comfort by compression provided support.
Due to different surgical liposuction procedures and recovery periods, you may need to wear your compression garment for some time following surgery. On average, this will be for a minimum of three weeks, and as you will be expected to wear your garment 24 hours a day, it is recommended that you purchase two garments so that one can be washed and air-dried while you wear the other.
We recommend wearing the garment for two weeks 24/7; then, in the next two weeks, you can wear it as long as you can. This is extremely important to ensure the best possible surgical outcome.
