How it Works
To better understand the procedure, how it’s done and the recovery process, feel free to study this section.
How Liposuction Works
The liposuction procedure is done under sedation, lowering the patient’s stress before and during surgery. Local anaesthesia is injected at the site so that a small nick can be made in the skin, where the tumescent anaesthesia is then injected to numb the whole area.
The laser liposuction is used first under the skin to melt the fat and tightens the skin, and then power-assisted lipo (PAL) is used gently under the skin where the cannula vibrates and breaks the remaining fat without using any power force. PAL has much stronger power to remove more fat from the patient than conventional liposuction without the need to use any manpower force. After the procedure, the patient should wear a compression garment for four weeks. The garment is designed to support the tissues and to minimise the chances of bruising and swelling from the procedure.
Tumescent Anaesthesia
Tumescent anaesthesia is a large volume of diluted local anaesthesia that has the advantage of numbing the area, and at the same time, it shrinks the blood vessels, which minimises the discomfort during the surgery and any chance of bleeding after the surgery.
Liposuction Recovery Time
Recovery from this procedure is very rapid. It is quite common to sense some tenderness, and some patients could resume work the very next day. A compression garment will be worn on the treated section for 4-6 weeks. While results may differ for each patient, they cannot be guaranteed. On consultation, Dr. Attalla will be able to advise you if you are a good candidate for the Slim Lipo procedure.

Liposuction is done as it follows - firstly, the patient is sedated to minimise stress before and during surgery. Then tumescent anaesthesia is used to numb the area requiring treatment. Tumescent anaesthesia is diluted local anaesthesia which expands the tissues, shrinks the blood vessels, and contains antibacterial elements, resulting in less discomfort after the surgery and a more efficient recovery process. Up to four or five small incisions during the procedure are made in the skin, and a suction cannula is used to extract the fat deposits from under the skin.

However, the most common areas include:
- Chin
- Neck

Compression garments are required after Liposuction to protect you from the side effects of the surgery, including bruising, swelling, and general discomfort. It will also help to ease some pain. Following the surgery and as part of your recovery compression garment will be necessary to wear for 4-6 weeks. That’s because compression garments benefits include the following:
- Significantly reducing oedema by compressing and flushing potentially harmful body fluids away from the skin.
- Minimising bruising by compression on small blood vessels and capillaries.
- Reducing the possible risk of infection from liposuction as potentially harmful fluids are not allowed to accumulate
- Aiding general body contouring and skin retraction by firm compression of the skin during the healing process.
- Improved comfort by compression provided support.
Due to different surgical procedures and recovery periods, you may need to wear your compression garment for some time following surgery. On average, this will be for a minimum of three weeks, and as you will be expected to wear your garment 24 hours a day, it is recommended that you purchase two garments so that one can be washed and air-dried while you wear the other.
We recommend wearing the garment for two weeks 24/7; then, in the next two weeks, you can wear it as long as you can. This is extremely important to ensure the best possible surgical outcome.

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that should not be confused with a weight-loss tactic. The aim is to tone certain areas of your body to assist with weight-related conditions, not to use it as a tool for losing weight. A typical liposuction procedure will remove between 3.5 – 5 kilograms of fat.
This is a very personal decision. If you are bothered by your stubborn areas of fat, and they are causing a lack of self-confidence or adverse effects on your daily life and comfort, then the liposuction procedure will produce results that will create a positive change in your mindset and appearance.
