It is difficult to specify exactly how many Australians suffer from OSA. It is generally thought however that around 9% of women and 25% of men in Australia have clinically significant OSA and that 4% of men and women have symptomatic OSA. The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnoea in Australia is probably increasing due to the ‘obesity epidemic’. Despite this, a large proportion of Australians with OSA remain undiagnosed and untreated.
The mechanism which causes snoring is based on the physical forms of your airways. When you sleep, the muscles of your throat relax, and your throat becomes narrower and floppy.
This process is normal even for a healthy person.
However, if the airway narrows too much, airflow becomes turbulent. This airflow current makes the walls of the throat begin to vibrate when you breathe in or when you breathe out.

How it Works
Laser snoring treatments are usually done in the doctor’s office with the patient fully awake and sitting in a chair. A complete snoring treatment consists of one to three sessions, each four weeks apart. Each session takes only 15 to 30 minutes.
Afterward, the patient is able to eat, speak and return to daily activities. A severe sore throat is experienced by some patients following snoring treatments. Medication is available as necessary. A reduction in snoring after the first session is common. After the snoring treatments are completed, 85 percent of patients report that their snoring has been helped.
Simple, Safe and Effective
Fotona’s patented laser modality optimizes the length of laser pulses, allowing for the safe penetration of heat into the oral mucosa tissue. It is gentle enough to be used on the sensitive tissue inside the mouth, but strong enough to provide clinically efficacious heating.
NightLase can reduce and attenuate snoring and provides an effective, non-invasive way to lessen the effects of snoring.
A Patient Friendly Solution
A full course of NightLase consists of three separate treatment sessions over a two month period. The final results of the treatment have been shown to last up to a year, and the therapy can be repeated.
Patients find NightLase to be a highly comfortable and satisfying solution. NightLase requires no device to be worn during sleep and involves no chemical treatment. It’s a gentle and easy way for your patients to regain a good night’s rest.
SP Line systems are equipped with a high performance Er:YAG laser that maximizes ablation efficiency with proprietary VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology, which can be accurately tuned to varying “cold” ablation and non-ablative thermal ratios. Full customizability allows you to precisely attain the clinical outcomes your patients desire.
The Nd:YAG laser on each system perfectly complements the Er:YAG laser’s ablative action with the ability to penetrate deeply into the skin to create thermal effects without damaging the skin surface. Compared to conventional Nd:YAG technologies.
