Why Men’s Liposuction?
Liposuction has historically been a cosmetic surgery domain reserved for women. In the past, lipo for men was very rare, but this has changed significantly in recent years, and now the popularity of liposuction for men has noticeably increased. This could be the result of a number of different factors, including increased client awareness about the possibility of lipo for men, and the increased safety of modern liposuction procedures.
Contemporary men are increasingly keenly interested in achieving a fitter, leaner looking physique, which is probably the major factor in the rising popularity of men’s liposuction. But how do you know if male lipo is right for you? And how exactly does it all work, anyway?
How Liposuction for Men Works
The procedures associated with male liposuction are fundamentally the same as those techniques used in female lipo. The key difference is that men typically seek very different results to women.
Where women tend to want liposuction results that include straighter, toned legs, and a narrow waist and tight abdominal region, men frequently seek liposuction to reduce fat for increased muscular definition of their pectoral (or chest) muscles, lats (back muscles), or to reveal six-pack, washboard abs.
Liposuction refers to the medical procedure where fat is forcibly sucked from the body through a metal tube called a ‘cannula’, with the aid of a suction machine. Traditional or conventional liposuction remains very popular amongst cosmetic surgeons.
This process involves creating a number of incisions over fat deposits, into which a cannula is inserted to break up and remove fat. In recent years, this procedure has been revolutionised through the addition of tumescent anaesthesia, a mixture of saline, local anaesthetic and adrenaline which shrinks blood vessels.
This minimises blood loss during the procedure, reduces the risk of complications, and leads to a shorter recovery time. Traditional liposuction is best suited to those patients who have a large volume of fat to remove.
- Suitable for large volume fat removal
- Addition of tumescent anaesthesia – improved process and reduced recovery time
- Longer recovery time than other fat reduction methods
A less-invasive option for those looking to achieve powerful results, VASER lipo® provides an alternative to traditional liposuction. Using a minimally-invasive laser technology, VASER lipo can produce visible results in just one procedure.
Because of the precision of VASER lipo, we’re able to target fat while protecting other tissues.
Key benefits of VASER lipo:
- Produce visible results in a single procedure
- Easily remove large amounts of stored fat
- Smooth skin even in delicate areas like the arms and neck
- Refine and accentuate the appearance of muscles
Liposuction surgery for men can be completed under local or general anaesthesia and is typically performed in an accredited day surgery. This means that the impact on your everyday life can be minimised as much as possible.

Other Technique Options for Male Lipo
Another option for liposuction surgery for men is laser liposuction. Unlike VASER, which uses ultrasound), laser liposuction uses heat to melt fat. This procedure is becoming more and more popular due to its affordability, reduced downtime, and minimal complications. Laser lipo for men is the most recent technology for liposuction and after being on the USA market for years, is proven in its effectiveness and improved safety.
Laser is also one of the best methods of liposuction, and can correct irregularities after other, unsuccessful liposuction attempts. The procedure works by created a small incision, through which a special probe is inserted to both melt the undesired fat and tighten the skin. The dissolved fat is then removed using a vacuum machine and power-assisted liposuction.
Power-assisted liposuction enables us to remove large volumes of fat when conducting male lipo; this technique also enhances the results and reduces complication. During your personal consultation, your surgeon will discuss what options are best for you. Regardless of what method is used, we will concentrate on those areas where men most want to achieve results, as we’ll discuss next.
Frequent Target Areas of Liposuction for Men
Our experienced team has found that liposuction surgery for men typically focuses on a few main areas that male patients want to sculpt and enhance. Like women, one of the most common and popular target areas is men’s abdominal liposuction. A crucial difference, however, between women and men's abdominal liposuction is that men tend to have significantly better skin retraction post-surgery. This means that the results of liposuction for men tend to be good.
The second most common male liposuction procedure is to address the medical condition, Gynaecomastia, more commonly referred to as ‘man boobs’. If you suffer from this condition and would like to know more, we cover information regarding gynaecomastia here. Men’s chin liposuction is typically the third most common type of liposuction for men and is becoming increasingly popular. Men striving to achieve the very attractive aesthetic of a ‘strong chin’ find that men’s chin liposuction can help them achieve the necessary chin projection and sharper jaw definition they’re looking for.
A thorough, professional assessment by the surgeon is required before pursuing chin liposuction, as the structures of the jaw play a significant role in the surgery’s success. While most men get good results from chin liposuction, individuals with an overbite and/or a small chin may have unsatisfactory results.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
- Upper Abdomen
- Lower Abdomen
- Chest or ‘man boobs’ (Gynecomastia)
- Face and Neck
Your surgeon will provide individual advice about recovery time following your procedure; however, expect to 1-4 weeks of downtime depending on the time of liposuction you undergo. Using a compression garment as recommended by your doctor after the procedure will aid with recovery and reduce pain.
Tumescent anaesthesia is a large volume of diluted local anaesthesia. It has the advantage of numbing the liposuction area while simultaneously shrinking blood vessels. This minimises the discomfort during the surgery and any chance of bleeding during or after the surgery.
Patients possessing unrealistic expectations of the possible outcomes.
Patients who have undergone crash dieting prior to the treatment.
Morbid obesity (mega non-surgical liposuction controversial due to higher risk of mortality from fluid shifts)
Known allergy to the medications used during the surgery.
Patients who have a history of bad scarring or keloids.
Minor & Common Complications: Negligible complications do not pose a threat to the patient’s life or affect their bodily functions or interfere with their work ability.
Trivial complications: Cover Temporary bruising, Seroma, allergic reactions to drugs, irregularities of the skin or unevenness and hematomas.
Less common side effects: Include necrotizing fasciitis, infection and local Anaesthesia risks
RETURNING TO EXERCISE
Your ability to return to exercising will be discussed with you after your procedure and will depend on your individual healing and the type of liposuction undergone. Patients should not expect to return to exercise before two weeks of recovery.
Men’s abdominal liposuction costs differ depending on the type of technology used during the procedure.
For any other areas, PAL costs $3500 per area. Please note that this price does not apply to procedures to address gynaecomastia, which is costed differently.
If you wish to have VASER or Slim Lipo procedures, these will cost an additional $500 per area.
